Stretch St Patrick celebrations for one more night with traditional Irish band Altan, in concert in Rennes on 19 March. They’re also in Colomiers on 13 April.
The five members of Altan, mainly from Donegal, have been playing together for more than thirty years. Fiddle, guitar, accordion and bouzouki blend to play traditional tunes and self-written ones, and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh’s beautiful voice brings to life songs in both English and Irish.
In the true tradition of Celtic folk music, the band are very attached to the provenance of their tunes and songs, and every piece is accompanied by an anecdote about who they learned it from, and how they learned it from their mother or grandfather.
This video goes behind the scenes as they made their latest album.
Catch the band in Rennes on 19 March, after a fabulous concert in the chapel of the Irish Cultural Centre in Paris. Altan are also headlining the Fous de l’Archet festival in Colomiers on 13 April.
