The Centre culturel irlandais in Paris is hosting an exhibition on the links between French and Irish rugby, which opened on 8 September, the opening day of the Rugby World Cup hosted by France. And there is an online version of the exhibition if you can't make it in person.
The exhibition in the Centre's lovely courtyard retraces 120 years of history between the boys in green and the boys in blue.
As you can see in the online version, there is lots of information on the sport in each country and between the two countries, its history, highlights, the move towards professionalisation and the women's game. There are lots of photos and quotes from players and fans alike. Only an Irish exhibition would contain a quote from Samuel Beckett about which position he would have James Joyce play in rugby! “Very crafty, very nippy, try him at fly-half [number 10]. He might surprise you when the light is fading.”
You'll find some teaching suggestions for using the exhibition in our Ready-to-use Resources section, and don't miss our resource on the World Cup.
