This 4-minute video is a simple explanation of Thanksgiving, designed for young learners in the U.S.A. It would work well in an ESL classroom. We've indicated the content of the sections if you don't want to use the whole thing.
The voiceover is slow and understanding is helped by the images. You could use sections from A1+, or use just the images as a support to explain Thanksgiving to even younger learners.
It's divided into three chapters:
00:00-00:25 What is Thanksgiving? A very brief description of the holiday today with the date.
0:26-03:11 What is the history of Thanksgiving? A fairly simple history of the Pilgrims arriving and being helped by the Wampanaog Native Americans. From 02:12 there's a section on the history of the day becoming a national holiday. From 2:48 there is a brief acknowledgement that relations between the colonists and the Native tribes weren't always as friendly.
03:12-03:56 How is Thanksgiving celebrated? An illustrated discussion of the celebration today, focussing on family time and traditional food (including mac 'n' cheese!). There's no mention of parades or football games.
